The missed chances that led to four small boys dying in a Sutton house fire

Deveca Rose’s two sets of twins were seen as well brought up yet their mother, who has been convicted of manslaughter, struggled with her mental health

All it took was 30 minutes. Deveca Rose, a 27-year-old single mum, left her four young boys home alone to go to Sainsbury’s. When she returned, her house was up in flames and her children lay on the pavement fighting for their lives.

Firefighters found the boys limp and unconscious under a bed. They were taken to hospital but were all pronounced dead within an hour of each other. Rose screamed “not my boys, not my boys” as doctors tried and failed to keep them alive.
